Assistant Librarian
Purpose of the role
The Assistant Librarian has two core responsibilities; learning and development and training and library services. The Assistant Librarian will design and deliver legal research L&D/training programmes for fee earners and non-fee earners, support the management and enhancement of the firm’s knowledge base and assist in the administration of the library.
This is a full-time role, reporting to Library Services Manager.
Responsibilities
Learning & Development/Training

Responsible for the maintenance of a legal research L&D programme for fee earners, ranging from trainees to partners, and non-fee earners

Responsible for the delivery of a significant proportion of legal research training on library catalogue and databases, including individual database training, Books of Authorities training, refresher case-law and legislation training and advanced training

Responsible for the preparation of training manuals, user guides, FAQs and video tutorials and the regular audit and amendment of guides

Liaises with external trainers to organise training sessions
Library Services

Assists fee earners with legal research and queries

Assists fee earners with business sector research

General library administration duties, including cataloguing of journals and books and weeding out hard copy and electronic material where appropriate

Supports development and review of library processes and procedures, including contributions to library pages of intranet

Supports development of RSS feeds and alerts for fee earners

Reviews, profiles and assists in the uploading of material to KM system on an “as required basis”
Skills, experience and attributes required of the ideal candidate

Post-graduate library qualification essential

An information professional with a minimum of 2+ years’ experience

Previous experience of legal or corporate library is desirable

The ability to undertake legal research unsupervised

Demonstrated interest in learning and development and training, with strong design and delivery skills

Strong demonstrated interest and literacy in I.T.

Excellent written and communications skills
