Assistant Librarian – Law Society of Ireland
The Law Society Library supports the legal research requirements of solicitor
members and provides library services to trainee solicitors and students
registered on LL.M., Diploma and Certificate courses in a variety of legal topics.
Assistant Librarian
We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Librarian. This is a permanent full time post,
subject to 6 months probationary period.
Essential requirements:
 A recognised graduate/post graduate qualification in Library and Information Studies
 Post qualification experience at Senior Library Assistant or Assistant Librarian level in
an appropriate and demanding customer facing library or information service
 Proven experience of research techniques in a legal, academic or specialist
environment
 Excellent presentation skills and a keen interest in working with library users in a
learning environment
 Excellent IT skills
 Flexible, collaborative and co-operative attitude
 Commitment to relevant professional development
The role:
 Manage the legal research/enquiries and document delivery desk on a rota basis
 Provide legal research skills training to members and provide support to Law School
courses at PPC, Diploma and LL.M. level including assisting in the preparation of
reading lists, developing and presenting sessions on the library services including the
online catalogue and other databases/resources
 Library housekeeping duties in relation to management of circulation of stock
 Any other duties assigned by the Head of Library and Information Services
