Job Title: Associate Librarian – Education, Research & Clinical Support
Location: RCSI Dublin
Reporting to: Director RCSI Library Services
Term of office: Permanent

Objective
The Associate Librarian Education, Research & Clinical Support is a member of the library management team which has collective responsibility for all library services. The role is responsible for developing and delivering strategy, policy and programming for three key areas of activity namely: teaching & learning, scholarly communications & research support and clinical library services.
Specific Responsibilities include:
Working collaboratively with the library management team and other senior library staff members to ensure library services and resources are aligned with, and support RCSI strategy.
 Leading and developing one of two new teams & engendering a creative, supportive, and innovative team culture.
 Managing & directing the work of the three team members: Scholarly Communications & Research Support Officer; Teaching & Learning Librarian; Clinical Librarian (based in Beaumont Hospital).
 Articulating the vision, scope and scale of new and revised services according to best or established practice in three key areas:
 Teaching & Learning: This is a changed position with the scope of supporting the learning and teaching activities of RCSI schools & departments including: delivering a scalable information literacy programme; creation of instructional materials, including online; providing a consultation service for library users.
 Scholarly Communications & Research Support: This is a new position to develop and deliver new and enhanced library services to support RCSI researchers and RCSI strategy. The scope entails responsibility for the Institutional Repository (IR), development of scholarly communications strategy and associated policies (e.g. open access & copyright), long term curation of scholarly output and applying emerging technologies in the delivery of quality research support and scholarly communication services.
 Clinical Services: The management of RCSI Library, Beaumont Hospital; provision of outreach library services in a clinical setting; provision of information skills training and contributing to the development of the information literacy programme; development of instructional materials; providing a clinical information service for library users.
 Taking a hands-on approach to design, development and delivery of relevant team activities.
 Maintaining & sharing knowledge and experience of emerging technologies & practices used to support the provision of innovative, high quality library support for research, learning, teaching and clinical activities.
 Management and administrative responsibility for the planning, delivery, monitoring, evaluation and development of these three support services.
 Working with the ALLSD to establish and ensure cross-team communications and working relationships at all times and to raise awareness of RCSI Library’s expertise and services to support the teaching, learning, clinical and research activities of RCSI.
 Promoting a work culture than enables individuals and teams to perform enthusiastically and consistently at high level.
 Building and maintaining strong strategic & working relationships with stakeholders and key support departments at the appropriate level within RCSI and building strong working relationships within the library
 Performing other duties and leading projects as requested in response to specific opportunities and needs and representing RCSI Library at meetings and on committees as appropriate with delegated authority from the Director RCSI Library Services
 Complying with statutory legislation and rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety
 Undergoing programmes of training and development relevant to the role and as may be required from time to time.
 Representing the best interests of RCSI at all times.
Person Specification:
 Post-graduate qualification in library or information science or equivalent.
 Evidence of commitment to CPD; membership of LAI or equivalent highly desirable.
 5 years’ minimum experience of planning & managing delivery of library services, including staff management.
 Significant knowledge and experience of providing research/scholarly communications and teaching & learning library support services. Demonstrable working knowledge of curriculum and/or clinical support domains.
 Academic health sciences library background highly desirable.
 Self-motivated & self-directed, team player with strong service ethic & commitment, energetic and resilient.
 Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership, project management and organisational skills.

Particulars of Post
This post is a permanent appointment at sub-librarian grade, starting salary minimum of €75,975. The appointee reports to the Director of RCSI Library Services.
