LAC Group seeks people with Archives and/or Library qualifications, who are experienced in Cataloguing/Metadata Creation, to assist with a cataloguing/metadata creation project, working on a variety of material types in Dublin, Ireland. This project is anticipated to run from 15 October 2013 for a period of approximately 10 weeks and must be completed before 21 December 2013. The team assigned to the project must be experienced librarians and archivists who have extensive cataloguing experience A good knowledge of 19th-20th century Irish history is essential for all team members and previous experience with the Virtual library management system will be an advantage. Applicants must be located in the Dublin area for the duration of the project.

Responsibilities:
§ Catalogue a diverse range of materials and deliver accurate and timely records, and ensure that authority records are correct and that the records meet international standards;
§ Create descriptive metadata for all library material including printed books, manuscripts, newspapers, prints, drawings, photographs and maps;
§ Rehouse and Archive materials where appropriate;
§ Determine appropriate guidelines in applying MARC 21, AACR2, Library of Congress Name Authorities, Library of Congress Subject Headings, ISAD (G), and Dublin Core;
§ Edit and update bibliographic authorities data based on relevant standards;
§ Batch process metadata records as required
Qualifications:
§ A recognized professional qualification in Librarianship (or a qualification acceptable to library as equivalent) OR
§ A recognized professional qualification in Archival Studies (or a qualification acceptable to the library as equivalent) with proven experience working with historic archives, cataloguing archival collections and with an understanding of the above mentioned cataloguing /archival standards;
§ Experience with MARC 21, AACR2, Library of Congress Name Authorities, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress TGM I & TGM II, ISAD (G) 2nd edition, and Dublin Core;
§ Excellent working knowledge of cataloguing standards and practice and should be familiar with cataloguing software systems, ideally the Virtual library management system (LMS);
§ Excellent cataloguing experience including an understanding of the above mentioned cataloguing standards and ability to produce catalogue records of the very highest quality;
§ A good knowledge of 19th – 20th century Irish history is a requirement for all team members;
§ Experience of data entry to a highly consistent and accurate standard;
§ Excellent organizational and IT skills;
§ Excellent interpersonal skills;
§ Ability to work under instruction or on own initiative;
§ Experience cataloguing early printed materials as well as modern publications is desirable.
