The Local Government sector in Ireland is made up of 31 Local Authorities and 3 Regional Assemblies. Local Authorities are the closest and most accessible form of Government to citizens. They have responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of services in their local area with a focus on making cities, towns and the countryside areas attractive places to live, work and invest. These services generally include housing; transportation; planning; infrastructure; environmental protection; recreation and amenity provision and community development. Local Authorities also play a key role in supporting economic development and enterprise promotion at local level.
The City & County Librarian is charged with the responsibility for the planning and management of the library services across Waterford. The County & City Librarian also oversees the management of the Council’s Arts Office, Cultural Quarter and Creative Ireland Programme and leads on a wide cultural remit across Waterford City & County.
This is a senior management role within the Local Authority which includes determining the organisational framework of the library in what is a very challenging environment.
An opportunity now exists in Waterford City & County Council for the position of City & County Librarian.
The City & County Librarian holds responsibility for leading on policy implementation, service delivery and change management in a dynamic and goal driven environment. The role requires strong leadership, innovation, agility and a commitment to customer service, alongside a high level of professional library, cultural and management skills, which include a strategic and operational element while maintaining value for money.
