County Librarian – Longford County Council
Longford County Council is the Authority responsible for Local Government in County Longford.
A vacancy now exists in Longford County Council for the position of County Librarian. The Council is responsibility for delivering of a wide range of services in the local area with a focus on making Longford a prosperous county that seeks to support a vibrant economy, rural quality of life, active and safe communities, diversity, culture and heritage, healthy and sustainable natural environment along with a sense of community pride and place.
The County Librarian is responsible for the planning and management of the Library services for the Local Authority. This is a senior management role within the Local Authority which includes determining the organisational framework of the library in what is a very challenging environment. They will be responsible for the efficient management and delivery of services, direction and development of the Library Services while maintaining value for money. The role will also include the co-ordination of both employees and activities in the Library service.
The successful candidate will:
- Hold a degree (level 8 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications) in the area of Library and Information Studies or possess an equivalent qualification)
- Have satisfactory experience of library work, including satisfactory experience at a strategic management level, and
- Have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation.
