South Dublin County Council is one of four local authorities in the Dublin region. The Council’s administrative area is 222.74 square kilometres, bounded by Dublin city to the northeast, the Dublin Mountains and County Wicklow to the south, the River Liffey to the north separating it from Fingal and County Kildare to the west. Within that area is a population of 278,767 people living in the county, over 6,500 business and significant economic, social, and cultural infrastructure to serve a growing capital city region.

A vacancy now exists in South Dublin County Council for the position of County Librarian.

The role of County Librarian is a professional senior management position in South Dublin County Council, reporting to the Director of Service. They are responsible for the development of an expanding library service and have responsibility for the development of cultural services, including the Arts Office and the Creative Industries. The County Librarian will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of forward thinking strategies in Economic, Enterprise and Tourism Development and to work closely with other staff and teams to deliver high quality library and arts services to the public.

The successful candidate will:

(i) Hold a degree (level 8 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications) in the area of Library and Information Studies or possess an equivalent qualification)

(ii) Have satisfactory experience of library work, including satisfactory experience at a strategic management level, and

(iii) Have a satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation.
