JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Information Services Manager
Reporting to: Head of Knowledge, Learning and Development
Information is one of the firm’s key assets and, as such, needs to be developed and exploited in order to generate further value for the firm. The library and information staff are key to ensuring that this value is realised through the effective collection, collation and exploitation of both internal and external materials in different formats.
Role:
The purpose of this role is to ensure the efficient and effective provision of information and research services within Arthur Cox, as such the Information Services Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the Arthur Cox library and managing the firm’s requirements for legal research training for fee-earners and non-fee earners.
The Information Services Manager will be responsible for the strategic management of information and research services, including training and investment in information resources.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Library Services
Managing the Library and Information Service, including both the print and online collection.
Developing business plan/strategy in relation to the Library and Information Service
Managing the cataloguing and auditing of the library’s physical collection. Managing and planning library space.
Ensure compliance with copyright and licence requirements
Conducting legal research and business sector research for partners and associates.
Liaising with various members of the firm, including the IT architect, Knowledge Management Specialist and Professional Support Lawyers on the provision of information services in line with agreed roles and responsibilities.
Maintaining an awareness of new publications and services that meet the identified needs of the relevant practice.
Reviewing, trialling and assessing new products and services.
Managing the library budget
Negotiating with external information services to ensure that the firm obtains the best quality of information resources for the most competitive price.
Learning and Development/Training
Developing and delivering a comprehensive legal research training programme for fee-earners.
Training new employees in the library services.
Monitoring legislation and updating fee-earners in a timely manner.
Promote services fee-earners to ensure effective use of new and existing services.
Experience, qualities and skills:
Strong academic background. Post-graduate library qualification; Masters in Library and Information Studies or equivalent is essential.
Previous experience of delivering information and research services in a large organisation.
Previous experience conducting legal research and a broad understanding of legal issues is essential.
Demonstrated interest in learning and development and training, with strong design and delivery skills.
Advanced technical skills to use and develop office and information systems effectively.
Strong demonstrated interest and literacy in IT with a good working knowledge of electronic resources, including Westlaw and LexisNexis is essential.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to persuade and influence at all levels of the firm. Team player with good management skills. Multi-tasker with pragmatic approach.

Ability to manage a team.
Ability to work under pressure and prioritise in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
