The Law Society Library supports the legal research requirements of solicitor members and provides library services to trainee solicitors and students registered on LL.M (Advanced Legal Practice) Diploma and Certificate courses, and is now looking for a Library Assistant to work full-time.

The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to working hours is required to comply with library desk rotas and opening hours, occasional evening and weekend work availability is required. This is a full-time two year fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate must be a good administrator, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ideally you will have some experience in customer services or other professional environment. A working knowledge of computer packages such as Word and Excel is essential.

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties in line with the Society’s standards and strategic objectives and as directed by the Director of Representation and Member Services..

  • Library issue desk duties including enquiry and information work using the Library’s catalogue, legal databases and other resources.

  • Supply content to weekly newsletter.

  • Document delivery including photocopying/scanning.

  • Maintenance of various loose-leaf texts.

  • Shelving materials, daily and regular upkeep.

  • Invoicing.

  • Statistical analysis.

  • Journals check-in and annual binding.

  • Support operational tasks as required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Recognised graduate/postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Studies or an interest in pursuing same.

  • Excellent customer service experience, preferably in a professional services environment.

  • Proficient IT skills.

  • Proven legal research skills desirable.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Positive attitude to working as part of a team.

  • Motivated, with a high degree of attention to detail.

  • Proactive and energetic approach to a variety of tasks.
