In this fixed term role as Library Cataloguer you’ll successfully work independently on an exciting project identifying, handling and cataloguing books within the property some of which require significant conservation work and identifying items of interest for future exhibitions. You’ll actively engage with the public whilst working with and promoting the significance of the project through a range of social media channels.
Mount Stewart House has now re-opened after our 3 yearlong restoration project. We’ve brought back the elegance and charm of the house when it was home of the 7th Marchioness Edith, Lady Londonderry and her family in the early 20th century.
About the role
We have an 18 month fixed term exciting opportunity where you’ll be responsible for cataloguing books owned by the National Trust at Mount Stewart onto the Collections Management System (CMS) as both object and MARC bibliographic records, with related images. The role will involve working independently on the project, under the instruction of and with remote guidance from the curatorial team. It will also involve teamwork with property staff, volunteers and visitors to the property – these may include talking to visitors while working and giving organised talks on the library at set times. About you
With a keen interest in books, history and culture, ideally you’ll have a qualification in librarianship or relevant professional accreditation. To deliver this role successfully, you’ll also need to:
Be computer literate using cataloguing and MS software packages to intermediate level
Have the ability to self-motivate and work independently in an organised fashion
Have excellent communication skills
Have an understanding of wider context of country house libraries and their historiesAnd it will be helpful if you can demonstrate the following experience on your application;
Cataloguing for online library catalogues using MARC21 to AACR2 standards and Library of Congress subject headings
Cataloguing rare materials using DCRM(B
Writing and presenting talks, with the ability to pitch at different audiences
Previous experience of a heritage or cultural environment
