Background:
Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) is the national representative body for Ireland’s 16 regional Education and Training Boards (ETBs), and works to protect, promote and enhance the interests of our member ETBs and of education and training within the wider education sector in Ireland and in Europe.
ETBI is currently developing a digital library to assist in the support of teaching and learning practices and to enhance the educational experience for learners. The Digital Library will offer resources for supporting learning as well as providing a support tool for teachers, trainers, and instructors. There are four strands to the Digital Library in progress or planned:
- Development of a library website providing the functionality of an academic library website and will act as a central hub for sharing of electronic resources relevant to the sector
- Identification, acquisition and development of electronic resources to support teaching and learning in the further education and training (FET) sector
- The creation of an open access peer-reviewed academic journal to publish research by, on and around the ETB sector
- The establishment of a repository for the ETB sector, to collect, preserve, and disseminate the intellectual – and other output of the sector.
Job specification:
Reporting to the FET Digital Systems Librarian and on occasion to the ETBI Director of Further Education, duties are anticipated to include:
- Creating subject guides, library tutorials and other content for the ETBI FET Digital Library website
- Developing library promotion and marketing activities
- Identification, acquisition and development of resources relevant to FET learners
- Supporting the development of thescholarly open access FET journal
- Supporting the development of a sectoral repository
- Identifying and developing Open Educational Resources for use in the FET sector
- Liaising with relevant ETB staff to help populate the sectoral repository
Candidates must have:
- An LAI-recognised postgraduate degree in library & information studies
- 3 years post-graduation experience with at least one year’s experience in academic libraries
- Strong IT skills with a forward-thinking approach to applying technologies to develop digital library services
- Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and on own initiative, applying independent professional judgement when required.
Desirable experience, skills and attributes:
- Commitment to open scholarship
- Experience of working on an open-access, peer-reviewed online journal
- Experience of working on institutional repositories
- Experience of scholarly engagement with academic staff
- Familiarity with using website content management systems
- Some knowledge of HTML and CSS
- Experience of writing for academic library websites
- Strong oral and written communications skills, with experience of presenting
- Experience of creating tutorials
- Familiarity with the Further Education and Training sector
