The Office of the VP for Research supports UCD’s vision of becoming a research intensive university by building an environment that supports and attracts world class research, enhances UCD’s research reputation and builds confidence in UCD as a destination for quality research investment.
In support of this vision, UCD has developed asector leading research management system to record and report on research publications, grants and activities. This UCD-designed system has recently been adopted by other Irish universities, including UCC, UL and NUIG.
The Research Systems Analyst role supports the implementation of UCD’s strategic goals through the delivery of comprehensive and integrated research information services.
The role will support:
• Research Management Systems
• Review, selection & implementation of research tools and systems
• Analytics and reporting on research activity at UCD
Salary range: €37,700 – €46,200 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Management of Research Management Systems
• Oversight of the operation and ongoing development of research managementsystems.
• Develop effectual working relationships with key stakeholders such as academic staff,
research managers, third party suppliers, IT Services and UCD Library.
• Define application problems by conferring with users, evaluating procedures and processes.
• Develop specifications and plans for the delivery of new system functionality & reports
• Manage the performance of key external suppliers
• Project manage enhancements & upgrades on research management & reporting systems
• Plan, schedule and track project milestones and deliverables using appropriate tools
Data management services
• Provide analysis and recommendations on the relevant data and quality standards for research information and knowledge management
• Improve the classification and integration of research information across all internal and external data sources

• Perform specified data analysis and studies as requested
Support of the analytics & reporting function
• Provide support and training to end users on key reporting and research information systems
• Be proactive about future information system needs and actively engage with the research community on requirements through customer surveys and other feedback mechanisms
• Track and analyse system and end user support requests
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Provide support to Office of the VP for Research’s portfolio of development projects
• Any other related duties or project support as assigned by the VP for Research (or nominee)
Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful
candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post.
Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experiencein a systems role, ideally within a higher education, research, funding agency or financial organisation
• Degree level qualification in Information Technology, Engineering or similar required
• Excellent IT skills
• Possess strong analytical skills with excellent communication, literacy & interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate strong problem solving capability
• Ability to manage competing priorities and demonstrate initiative.
• Ability to work independently to meet deadlines while maintaining high level of professionalism
Desirable
• C, Java, PLSQL,Oracle Databases, Institutional Repositories.
• Full Software Lifecycle experience; e.g. SDLC, RUP, DSDM etc.
• Project Management experience and qualification e.g. PMP or PRINCE2
• General Consulting Skills
• Experience of working in a University environment
