Job Description: Privately Paid School Librarian
Reporting to: Deputy Head of Academics
Job Type: Job Share 18.5 Hours per week Wednesday – Friday during term time.
Summary Job Description:
The King’s Hospital School is seeking to hire an experienced and highly motivated
Librarian. This role is a job share role of 18.5 hrs per week, Wednesday to Friday
during term time.
The successful candidate will support the curriculum and individual students work,
promote reading for pleasure and information, ensure students participate in an
information literacy programme and support staff in their teaching and learning.

The School librarian will have the following responsibilities:
• Perform the full range of librarian deliverables.
o Lending and returning materials.
o Managing overdue materials
o Cataloguing and classification.
o Circulation management.
o Reference desk and systems librarian.
o Coordinating the library volunteers.
o Budget management
o Supervision of students for library opening hours.
o Promoting our School library.
• Maintaining the library booking system and timetable.
• Manage the strategic policy making and development planning for the library.
• Be a member of the literacy team and contribute to the literacy strategy for the school.
• Responsible for the management and development of the library service ensuring that staff and students have access to a wide range of reading matter, reference materials, research tools and I.T systems to support the School’s wider teaching and learning objectives.
• Provide training for staff and students on the use of library apps ( e.g. Sora is the current provider of the Schools digital library)
• Provide training to staff and students on the services available free to use through the public library services and other agencies.
• Development of the School library web page.
• Manage the library twitter account.
• Contribute to the School’s social media for library activities and events.
• Liaise with all School stakeholders to promote the library services.
• Coordinate library book clubs, competitions, and extracurricular lunchtime clubs.
• Manage the School library volunteer programme.
• Manage the visiting speaker’s programme to include authors, journalists, and other guest speakers.
• Develop and deliver a wide range of information literacy classes to students.
• Design and deliver library inductions training classes to staff and students.
• Run the accelerated reader programme in collaboration with the English Department.

Person Specification
Requirements/ Education and Qualifications:
• H Dip in Library & Information Studies / PG in Library & Information Studies.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a librarian role, preferably in a School setting.
• Excellent I.T skills including the use of Microsoft 365, library apps and library management systems such as Koha/Scooter.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, staff, visiting guests’ speakers and School leadership team.
• Ability to work independently.
• Enjoys working with students in the 12 – 18 year age group.
• Enjoys reading children’s/young adult literature.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends and technologies in the educational sector and school librarianship arena.
• Highly organised.
