Job Description

The library staff are responsible for providing a pro-active, cost effective and efficient library and information service in support of the learning and research requirements of CIT.

The appointee may be assigned to any of a very wide range of areas or activities carried out in an Institute Library, in any of its campuses.

The Systems Librarian reports to the Librarian, and is responsible for the following duties within the library:

Maintenance, upgrade and configuration of the Library Management System and workflows supporting all CIT libraries.
Provision, maintenance and support of on and off campus access to E-journals, E-books and other electronic resources.
Involvement in systems related projects as they arise e.g. LibGuides, LibCal, room-booking software, Summon, RFID stocktake.
Assist in the evaluation of electronic resources and software to improve the delivery of services, operations and processes.
Liaise with IT services as required to ensure that the IT infrastructure of the Library is aligned with the IT structures within the Institute.
To provide technical guidance and support to staff and students in electronic resource access.
Support the maintenance of staff and student computers in the library, including the maintenance of the Library asset register.
Ensure the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Online Public Access Catalogue – Web Interface, liaising with the Library Webmaster as required.
Creation of reports and compilation of statistical data.
Assist at the library information desk.
Represent the Institute Library at conferences and events as required from time to time.
Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be requested by the Librarian.

Qualifications Required

Essential:

Post-graduate qualification in Librarianship/Information Studies.
Minimum of two years of experience managing or supporting library management systems and related technologies.
Demonstrated ability to work well with managers and technical and non-technical staff to discuss functional requirements, write specifications and develop work plans and schedules
Evidence of ability to troubleshoot, diagnose problems and develop proposals drawing upon technical expertise of self and others
Excellent knowledge and experience of metadata standards, formats and cataloguing practices used in libraries, including MARC, RDA.
Experience of authentication and familiarity with Shibboleth and EZproxy.
Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills to effectively explain technical issues and processes to non-technical audiences.
Strong project management, organizational skills to coordinate work plans, prioritize work, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to work productively as an individual contributor and collaboratively as a team member.

Desirable:
Qualification or relevant professional experience in computer science.
Experience planning and managing systems implementations and integrations.
Experience of Open Source software and the ability to write or modify scripts and programs.
Knowledge of, and commitment to, monitoring of current trends in technology and systems developments affecting libraries and higher education.
Familiarity with digital repositories.
