POSITION SUMMARY
The Systems Librarian supports the adoption, technical integration and management of emerging technologies, automated systems and digital strategies, to meet the service requirements and information management needs of HSE Dr. Steevens Library.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The post of Systems Librarian will require a flexible enthusiastic candidate with the ability to adopt various roles in the emerging National Library Structure. The duties and responsibilities of this post can be categorised under the following three main headings:
Strategic
Develop and future proof the library IT infrastructure including the implementation and integration of library technology, systems and digital strategies
Develop innovative solutions for service planning and operation; keep abreast of developments areas to anticipate users’ needs, identify opportunities and facilitate change
Liaise with library staff to establish and implement strategic service requirements and priorities
Liaise with key service users to establish and implement IT solutions to meet services requirements and priorities
Project management including managing a team, writing requests for proposals, system specifications and workflows
Oversee electronic resource selection and implementation in consultation with librarians including database vendor liaison
Operational
Software selection, purchasing, installation, and support.
Troubleshooting any technical issues relating to library hardware, software and network administration
Day to day management of the Integrated Library System (ILS), including maintenance, migration, upgrades and training
Creating technical documentation and virtual learning user guides
Develop the library’s web presence, including website, intranet and social media
Collect, analyse and present reports, statistics and other data relating to the management and work of library systems
Digital/Open Access
Management and development of Lenus, the Irish Health Repository, to cater for future research demands both within the HSE and the wider Health sector
Strategic planning for Lenus in the context of Open Access both at a national and organisational level
Support the HSE Open Access Research Steering Group and the Lenus Working Group and management of the Lenus Project Team
Promote Lenus by participating in initiatives such as Repository Network Ireland and the Open Access National Steering Group, attending and presenting at conferences, providing open access awareness campaigns and training
Day to day maintenance of Lenus, uploading items and creating metadata. Checking and cleaning metadata, validate linkages, implement takedown policy
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have at the latest date of application, as relevant to the role:
Have a Quality and Qualifications Ireland Level 8 (or higher) major academic award in Library and Information Studies (or equivalent qualification)
Significant experience of supporting an integrated library system, platforms, and software in an academic, health library or other relevant setting (with a minimum of two years’ service in such a role)
Experience of project management which has included delivering change and engaging with multiple stakeholders at all organisational levels
Experience of supervising staff
