Job Title: Technical Writer

Department: Product Development
Reports to: Manager, Documentation
Location: Dublin

POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Writer is responsible for designing and producing technical documentation for a highly configurable software product in a collaborative environment employing Agile development methodologies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:

 Writes clear, concise, and logically organized descriptions of system functions, and edits documentation accordingly.
 Participates in the development process and acts as advocate for end-users.
 Manages ongoing and detailed documentation projects.
 Addresses errors in documentation by researching edit requests and making changes as appropriate.
 Works with manager and team to develop documentation processes and guidelines.
 Ensures delivery of quality documentation by following style guides, and established processes and procedures.
 Delivers documentation on schedule with a high degree of quality.

Additional Responsibilities:

 Develops a deep knowledge of the products and writes technical content to an approval level of detail.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

 Bachelor’s degree in information systems/computer science, technical communications/writing or similar degree.

Experience:

 Minimum 2 years of experience.

Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

 Excellent writing, demonstrated by writing samples upon request.
 Ability to explain complex technical topics to a variety of audiences.
 Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
 Ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly.
 Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
 Ability to work independently and with others in a team environment.
 Ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure and in a fast-paced Agile development environment.

Preferred

 Experience with MadCap Flare or other industry standard authoring tools.
 Familiarity with source-control systems, such as Git.
 Experience with UNIX, CSS, Perl, JavaScript, SQL, or any library-related work is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OR INFORMATION

 Although duties are typically performed during normal business hours, occasional off-hours work may be required to meet customer and/or business needs.
 Position may require occasional travel to conferences or other Innovative offices.
