TITLE OF POST: Archivist, Promotion and Outreach

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Glucksman Library’s archival collections have grown in recent years to include the National Dance Archive of Ireland (NDAI), the Armstrong Papers, the Daly Papers, the Kate O’Brien Papers, the Shannon Development Photographic Archive, and other estate, literary and historic collections.
Related exhibition activities include the online WW1 exhibition It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, a planned exhibition as part of the 1916 Rising commemorations, and other events in 2016 topromote the Library’s archival collections.
Working closely with the Head, Special Collections, this role will develop a range of promotional and outreach activities in 2016 to engage the University community and wider communities with these collections.

Primary responsibilities include:

 Promotion of archival collections to the University and the wider community
 Work on exhibitions, events, outreach activities
 Working with the digitization staff in Technical & Digital Services, develop access to the collections through digitization initiatives where appropriate
 Deliver presentations to relevant groups
 Answer queries on archival collections
 Supervise the work of staff dealing with archival material
 Plan the implementation of an archival management system

DESCRIPTION:

List the essential and desirable academic and/or professional qualifications, relevant experience and skills required for the post.

Essential

• A recognised postgraduate qualification in archival studies
• Excellent marketing, communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrable event management skills
• Excellent IT skills, with good understanding of archives in the digital environment and archival software
• Ability to produce high quality work while meeting tight deadlines

Desirable

• Relevant work experience at a professional level
• Experience of exhibition management, marketing and promotion
• Knowledge of and interest in Irish history and culture
• Social media skills
• Other qualifications relevant to the role
